Claydon House

400 years of Verney family history at Claydon.

Rising to a position of power from royal favour, the family are torn apart with the arrival of the civil war. Broken and plunged into debt, the Verney’s rebuild their lives through trade and marriage to become a family of significance; visibly showcasing their wealth with the extravagant and opulent design of Claydon House.  Sadly, the family ambition over-stretches their fortune and Claydon House now tells the story of a series of gains and losses through stunning architecture and crumbling walls.
