If there was one thing / object / building that represents Buckinghamshire for you, what would it be?

Buckinghamshire Culture is asking for nominations for its Buckinghamshire in 100 Objects campaign, inviting people to nominate physical objects that best define the county and celebrate its story. Nominations so far include places such as Clivedon House and Waddesdon Manor, a county-brewed pint of Chiltern Ale, and objects closer to home including the Lenborough Hoard (available to view at The Old Gaol Museum in Buckingham), the University of Buckingham mace and the Buckingham Mayoral Chains.

At Love Buckingham, we thought long and hard about this. In Buckingham, we have some of the most beautiful historic street views and river views in the county (not to mention our lovely green spaces), there is also, of course, our beautiful parish church – visible from miles around – and the Old Gaol in the centre of town; and we are also incredibly lucky to have amazing local producers and suppliers that help demonstrate the bounty of our county.

Bill Morris, Buckinghamshire Culture Co-Chair said about the campaign: “The difficult times we’re all coping with offer us the opportunity to reflect on where we live. And most of us would agree that we’re extremely fortunate to be here in Buckinghamshire. But what makes it so special, and how can we best tell its story? We want the people that live here to help define 100 Objects from around the county that sum up what Bucks and its people stand for.”

We’ll think a bit more on what our nomination will be, but we’ve included photos here – for your enjoyment – of the Flosh on the River Great Ouse (just off Station Road / Hunter Street), historic houses on the High Street in wisteria bloom (in the centre of town) and the historic manor house (visible from the old Churchyard off Hunter Street) as examples of the historic beauty of Bucks; and local farm, producer and creator of homegrown meat and produce Manor Farm Bourton and The Larder Cafe and of Smith & Clay Butchers and Deli as a champion of locally-produced meat and produce, both a fantastic part of our Buckingham/Bucks community.
